What is Bamboo?
Bamboo use in China extends over 4,000 years ago. Many ancient cultural bamboo artifacts were made for daily production and living purposes. The history and usage of bamboo dishes and musical instruments is especially extensive. Before paper was developed, Chinese people used bamboo flakes as a way to record history and spread culture. The flexibility and durability of bamboo products is what made this material very popular and reliable.

China is relatively poor in hardwood but is one of the few countries that are rich in bamboo resources. China is the largest producer of bamboo products in the world. Bamboo grows mainly in South China and covers areas over 1.6 million square miles.

Traditionally, bamboo was only used for daily accessories, such as chopsticks, cups, chairs, etc. During the 1990s,bamboo production technology developed greatly. Due to economic growth in China, deforestation became an important issue. Bamboo began to attract attention from the government and public as an alternative building material. In southern China, rich soil and plentiful precipitation allowed for a friendly tropical environment in which to grow bamboo.
Bamboo harvesting provides a sole means of making a living for many bamboo farmers in the poor mountainous regions in the south. This bamboo industry is also supported and encouraged by the local government.

People in the world are paying more and more attention to environmental protection since the ecological environment is being damaged. In many countries, trees are restricted to be cut in order to save the forest resources. And now, bamboo is regarded as the best replacement of hardwood. Bamboo floors, furniture, etc. are loved by more and more people. It's "green" decoration material in now-day's lives.
1. Growing Fast
Bamboo is a renewable resources, it is the fastest growing plant in the world. It grows one third faster than the other fastest tree. The mature period of bamboo is only 5-7 years while hardwood should take at least 15-25 years to be harvested. Bamboo has very extensive rooting system, on which new bamboo grows up after the old is harvested.
2. Harder than Oak and Maple
Bamboo has been proved to be harder than Oak tree and Maple tree. According to test, bamboo is about 27% harder than Oak, and 13% harder than Maple. It is 50% more stable than Oak and 2.5 times more stable than Maple. Bamboo flooring is more durable than traditional hardwood.
3. Not Easy to Shrink, Swell or Curve
Since bamboo fibers are vertical, they are processed in the same direction of fibers. This can reduces the opportunity of moisture absorption compared with traditional woods of which fibers are round and much easier for water absorption. In process, bamboo is steamed and dried to reach the moisture at to 8-10, which prevents curving after installation and also anti-mildew.
